Chapters 26- 30
Chapter 26
School starts and Jem is in the 7th grade while Scout is in the 3rd grade creating a social gap between the two. Jem tried out for football but he was too slender (man) so he ended up as a type of water boy. Scout is now remembering all of the things Boo Radley had given them which are the Indian head pennies, gum, soap dolls, rusty medals, and a broken watch. Scout now imagines what her first encounter with Boo would be like. Atticus tells her to stop thinking about it because he is too old to chase after them if they run into the wrong place and he warns her that she might get shot at by Nathan Radley.
In spite of Atticus' short comings as a parent, he was re-elected to state legislature the following year. showing that he can take care of a whole county .
Cecil Jacobs gives his presentation on Hitler he starts off with Old Hitler every time he speaks. During and after his presentation several students and Scout ask how he could do such a thing. Their teacher Ms. Gates teaches the children that they live in a democracy and that Germany was a dictatorship that why they are different Ms. Gates even goes far enough to say that in America they do not believe in persecution and that persecution only arises from the prejudiced which is practically America in a nutshell at the time. Cecil Jacobs gives a perfect example of this by saying that he did not understand why Hitler persecuted the Jews because they were white. Scout is perplexed ,vocab word , by this so she goes to Jem and tells him that back at the courthouse she hear Ms. Gates talk about how black people, "Had it coming and that they were getting way above themselves next thing you know they think they can marry us ." Which is no beuno at the time. When Jem is reminded of the courthouse he get furious and tells Scout never to mention it again and to leave his room.
Chapter 27
Three erratic ,vocab word , things occurred in Maycomb i the middle of October. FIRST Mr. Bob Ewell got a job due to his fame from the court case with Tom Robinson, but he losses it as fast as he gets it. SECOND thing Judge Taylor is not a Sunday Churchgoer instead he likes to read in his home. At one point he is reading the works of Bob Taylor ,of whom he is not related too, when he hears a scratching sound he thinks it is his dog, but when he goes and checks it is not his dog. When Mrs. Taylor came back home she saw her husband reading the works of Bob Taylor with a shotgun in his lap. THIRD thing that happened was that Helen Robinson would go work by walking on the main road which happens to pass the Ewell's property, and when she does pass their property they chunk at her. Tom has been forgotten, but Link Deas hasn't forgotten so he makes a job for Helen as his cook because he felt bad. When Link finds Helen coming to work from the wrong direction he asks her what the problem is and she tells him. Link then goes and confronts Mr. Ewell telling him to leave Helen alone. The next day Ewell follows Helen all the way to work which cause Link to tell him that he should leave because he is on Link's property and that Link will get him locked up for assault.Nine old men killed the National Recovery Act. Halloween was an unorganized event in Maycomb but that changed when some kids messed with Mrs. Tutti and Mrs. Frutti whom arrived in 1911. Mr.s Merriwether crates a pageant called Maycomb County Ad Asstra Per Aspera. in which the kids were dressed as Maycomb's prime resources. Scout is a ham . Scout is a bit dissapointed that Atticus, Aunt Alexandra, or Calpurnia could not make it to her show. Then at the very end Scout says that she and Jem go on their longest journey together DUN DUN DUN.
Chapter 28
Jem teases Scout about her being girl meaning that it is scary for her to cross the Radley's place to get to the high school for their performance. While they are walking Scout wonders how Jem keeps his barrings and Jem tells her that it is because when they go under the Oak Tree it becomes significantly cooler. On there way there they are scared by Cecil Jacobs. Scout asks him where his cow costume is he says that he put it backstage and that he would be glad to take them there. When they get to the school Jem gives Scout thirty cents while he goes off with his own group of friends. Scout and Cecil both armed with thirty cents go through a house of horrors which does not scare them, go to others booths, Scout tries to bob for apples but Cecil tells her that his moms says it is too unsanitary. Then the show begins ,but Scout falls asleep in her costume and gets on stage late. She is reprimanded by Mrs. Merriwether. They leave late because Scout is too embarrassed to go trough the crowd so Jem like a good brother waits for her. as they are walking Scout remembers she left her shoes at the school but Jem tells her to forget about it. As they walk home Scout can't see a thing so she asks Jem how he can see he hen tells her it is because of the bright reflective streaks Mrs. Merriwether put on her costume. Scout then calls Cecil out by saying "Cecil is big wet he-en" then they start to walk and hear footsteps when they quicken Jem tells Scout to run, but Scout trips and dies, just kidding, falls. Then Jem is fighting Ewell in the dark with some sound effects such as BOOM BOOM POW. Then Scout hears a CRUNCH which happens to be Jem's arm. Scout then finds her footing and walks around she steps on this thing that smells of old whiskey,Mr. Ewell cough cough, but at that moment it is unknown to Scout who it is. Scout runs to the direction of the road and she see s man holding a load too heavy for him which happens to be Jem. When she gets home she all of the "are you okays?" and when Atticus sees Jem they call Dr. Reynolds and Alexandra is not persuasive enough so Atticus persuades some to get him. When Dr. Reynolds get there he checks Jem out and Scout asks multiple times if he is dead and the answer is always no or far from it. While this happens Boo is in the corner of the room. Scout wonders why the "Country Man" is not given a chair by Atticus and she just says he understamd them better than her. Mr. Tata ,Tate, says Bob Ewell is dead DUN DUN DUN with kitchen knife up his ribs.
Chapter 29
Heck Tata,Tate, asks Scout to tell the story of went down nest to the Oak Tree ans she does. Heck Tata then talks of puncutre holes in Ewell's arms and finds out that Scout's ham costume block the knife slash and stabbed Ewell a bit. Heck Tate then tells Atticus that there are people in the world that you have to shoot before saying hi and even then they are not worth the bullet it takes to shoot them symbolizing how worthless they are. When Scout finishes her story she tells Heck Tate that their savior is the man in the corner and she points at him, and when she does so she notices that he has pale everything ,vampire ;;, which can only symbolize someone who has not seen sunlight for a long time. he then has some neighborly aura that cause her to say *SUPER MEGA TRIPLE UNDERLINE "Hey,Boo" THIS IS THE CLIMAX OF THE BOOK* all the pages before this lead up to this moment
Chapter 30
Heck Tate and Atticus discuss the events that transpired and Heck Tate insists that Ewell fell on his knife while Atticus says that Jem killed Ewell. This is on of the few time Ewell has seen Atticus incapable of putting 2 and 2 together. Heck says that there is a black boy dead and his murder is dead as well so they should just let the dead bury the dead. None of this get to Atticus until Heck Tate say that he is the Sheriff and if he says Boo did it then people would give him too much attention and bother his normal quiet life which would be like killing a Mocking bird because it would destroy a person who has done nothing wrong to the community. Atticus then understands this ,but is afraid Scout and Jem won't so he goes up to Scout and tells her this meaning to keep Boo a secret and say Ewell fell on his knife. Scout is all for it and she says "well, it'd be sort of shootin' a mockingbird wouldn't it. Atticus is then X-tremely relieved.
Chapter 31
Scout now converses with boo but he does not talk . he tells him to pet Jem yep PET Jem. he does then Boo asks Scout to walk him home in a tone of voice of a child afraid of the dark. When Scout starts to think about Boo's history with them she, feels sad because he has given them such nice things and saved their lives, but they gave nothing in return, but she was WRONG because they gave Boo his reason death,yea that's how you spell it, which is to see the kids playing everyday and such. As Scout looks out at the town from Boo's porch she sees everythin that has happened in the past 2 years and that is when she is enlightened to Atticus teachings of steeping in people's shoes. So right then standing on that porch looking from Boo's point of view she was placed into an 51 year old's body with the spirit of and 18 year old,Boo cough cough,. THAT'S ALL FOLKS.
